Why is Prizewinning Photography a prerequisite for Pixel This?

Pixel This is designed primarily for photographers, and many of the lessons and techniques taught in Pixel This require an understanding of the photographic concepts taught in Prizewinning Photography.

 

What does the course cost?

Tuition for Pixel This is $574 for the course and materials.

A $100 deposit is required to reserve your spot, with the remainder due upon arrival.

Housing and meals are location specific, averaging $250. Students are responsible to arrange for their own transportation to and from the course.

 

What are the age requirements for Pixel This?

Students applying for Pixel This must be at least 16 years of age.

 

How long is Pixel This?

Each course begins on Sunday evening with a welcome and orientation and ends Friday night around 9 pm.

 

When can I book my flight?

Upon receipt of your registration confirmation, you will be asked to submit a Travel Details Form to allow us to prepare for your arrival. Please do not book flights before receiving this confirmation!

Pixel This courses begin at 8:30 AM Monday and finish at 5:30 Friday. Students flying in should plan to arrive between 10AM and 4PM on Sunday, and depart after 9:00AM the following Saturday. Airport runs outside of these time frames may be charged an additional fee.

 

What is the difference between Pixel This and Prizewinning Photography 2?

PWP2 bridges the gap between PWP and Portraiture & Lighting for portraiture, and does the same for digital imaging and Pixel This. In PWPII, you discover basic digital workflow, web publishing, and entry-level software applications with Lightroom2 and Photoshop Elements. Pixel This is unapologetically advanced, and we build upon, then blow past, the digital concepts and skills taught in PWP2. PWP2 is not a prerequisite for Pixel This, but the skills of PWP2 are.

 

What computer skills do I need for this course?

Computer skills are a must for this advanced course. Make sure you know how to accomplish the following:

  • Navigate your computer (for example: locate your Pictures/My Pictures folder, save and locate files)
  • Install programs, printers, and drivers
  • Navigate the Internet
  • Download images from a camera to a computer
  • Digital asset management
  • Connect to an external network or server
  • Typing 60 or more words per minute is a plus for all those notes you’ll want to take!

 

What will I need to bring?

There are several pieces of equipment that are required:

  • A computer capable of running Adobe Photoshop CS3 or CS4 (click here for the full list of system requirements)
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 or CS4
  • A computer mouse

What operating system do I need to run?

Students are welcome to bring either Mac or Windows based systems. Windows machines will need to be running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista, and Macs should be running OS 10.3.4 or later.
